Re: Goner!
Just you and me . . . .
Next week end though is the Melo Velo ride.
Can your back make it up to Ventucopa and the 33?
You can truck it up there and even camp overnight.
Brakelate and Tetge might even make it . . .

Re: Goner!
I am still around but the old body has been hurting too much to enjoy riding, so, I am taking a break. This was also prompted by the encounter with the CHP in Bouquet Cyn., as I do not wish a major traffic citation on my record as it can get very expensive. At least this marks the longest span that I have gone without purchasing a new rear tire. But, the DR-Z is sitting on the Battery Tender so I should be back out riding by next Spring, one way or the other. Perhaps I will get one of those new Kawasaki Ninja H2 supercharged 1000's? I might be able to keep up if I had one of those.

Re: Goner!
I've been busy again, but and going to try to post some more on my new (to me) DRZ400E. I pulled the trigger today and completed the purchase. Had a friend ride over with me so I could ride the bike home, and just as we finished the transaction all hell broke loose. Torrential rain, lightning strike after lightning strike. meow... I will try again tomorrow. 1 hour later the lightning is still pounding, but the rain has slackened...
The Central Mexico weather can be very interesting. I like it.

I just saw an article about those today, and I immediately thought of all you nut jobs. Though I don't love the Kawi-green frame, this is a sexy looking beast...Tetge wrote:Perhaps I will get one of those new Kawasaki Ninja H2 supercharged 1000's? I might be able to keep up if I had one of those.

Re: Goner!
It would harm their sales of 600s but they should turbo charge a 300 Ninja.
Or their 500/650 twins . . . .
There's more efficiency, bang for the buck, with the small bikes than there is with the liter bikes.
The little Ninjas make, what? 30 horse now, so, a turbo model could make 60 . . .
Cruise along, weighing what? 250 lbs, part throttle making 10 horse, getting maybe 100 MPG, whack it open and

I would LOVE to come down to ride my old haunts from the '80s. I haven't hit The East Fork, or the run from the top of GMR over to Baldy up to the top in literally decades.
I have pics from up there on my '82 Gpz 550, running Turnbull Canyon on my Gpz1100 and then in '87 had some shots taken just before the GMR junction on my '86 Honda VF1000R. I still have them around, along with my '89 Honda CB-1 (LOVED that bike, brings me to tears thinking about when I had to let it go due to a new home and newborn kids). But I used to slay all the new fangled fancy 600 Honda's and even the incredible, ground breaking -and hard to find, CBR900RR when they first came out up on ACH (downhills in particular) while they were all trying to come to terms with that new beautiful machine, but equipped with that odd ball 16" front tire, that was too wide, and a radial and could not run the old classic 16's from machines from the outgoing era.
I'll have to dig out and scan some pics.
I hurt so bad now, just going on nature walks with my son, trying to get back into some shape at all, that I seemed to have re-damaged my surgically repaired knee and smashed up ankles. It just hurts for days walking around the lot here, going to get the mail, play with the dogs and moving about. I deeply miss riding, but an not sure -- even at my early age- that the pain vs rewards are worth it. I shall keep trying until all the law suits settle and I can hopefully actually get things fixed up and repaired to a point that the discomfort on the ride, and the many days, if not weeks following diminish to the point that I can at least partially resume my previous level of activity, on the bike and off. It is very depressing. Endless respect and kudo's to all of you life long, "real" riders who have managed to keep riding , and enjoy it after all these years . I NEED to get to that place, somehow. In time , I suppose. In time.
That being said, though the weekends before and after are full of events I would like to attend, even if I just park the bike, hang the gear on the awning hooks out on the door and talk mad shit about how fast I used to be (or thought I was) without ever even thumbing the bike to life, resigned to siting uncomfortably in a lawn chair in front of the lawn chair, sipping sweet tea and fist fulls of pain meds for pain, inflammation of the joints and psych meds to keep me from sipping into a deep fit of depression after only having the "good old days" to sit back and reflect upon.
But, if I find the a conveniently located spot to cam for the week, in the lonely dirt lot behind "the Place" or in an abandoned campground up on he Forest Highway at a convenient, centerally located spot in the middle of the action , within a tolerable ride to all points north, shouth and everything in between (Pehaps the hidden Lake Hughes Campground) I can try to hook up with you for a reunion trip up and around Azusa Canyon, with a spin up to the top road closure, up and down GMR, or even up to the top of Baldy Ski resort parking lot. For old times sake.
I used to take a shit load of pics. If not lost to time, destroyed by water damage, nibbling varmints or plain crushed and disinigrated, I will work on scanning a few and putting the up. Forced to live through my stored away mental images, and perhaps a few grainy, withered photos. What a shame, indeed.
But, a mid week ride out there would be a total blast!
