Margaritas
Just don't make a snow cone. I find that good sweet and sour mix and good tequila are really all it takes, although as time passes one may not even know the quality of the tequila anymore. I go to BevMo and get Dr. Swami & Bone Daddy's Sweet and Sour and this makes a great Margarita by just adding good tequila. I usually use Cazadores Reposado that I get at Costco as it is good enough. About a 50/50 mix of tequila and the sweet and sour over regular ice cubes (not too many).

Funny, I noticed the threads have the ability to be rated here, and sure enough, this one has been given a full Ten Stars! Even though I can't drink the stuff!

Re: Margaritas
Down here, I have changed the drill on my 'gritas.
I mostly threw away the blender, switched to blanco only (usually "the people's tequila", El Jimador ), using 8oz of tequila, 4 oz of Controy (a Mexican version of Cointreau that used to be cheap but those friggin gringos have bought so much that the price has risen ), an ounce or so of fresh lime juice, and then maybe 8 oz of Jose Cuervo mix (Bone Daddy, also my favorite is not available here), shake the hell out of it or for ease blend it for about 5 seconds. Add some ice and blend again, then pour into a glass already containing a couple of ice cubes and with rim salted. rocas con sal Tastes good. Usually don't have to make a second batch unless someone else is also drinking.

Re: Margaritas
I had some tasty marg's this past weekend at Murrieta's in Bonita, near chulajuana (chula vista).
they made me want to rethink my 3 ingredient drink rule, where I only drink cocktails with 3 ingredients or less (ice included).

Re: Margaritas
Maybe things have changed in Mexico since back in the day we never drank the water and that included ice cubes. So, local Margaritas would have been off limits, although tequila shooters would have made the cut. We could drink soft drinks such as rum and coke or beer. Mostly we took all our own food with us (lots of canned goods) but, of course, some things in Mexico were safe such as freshly caught fish and shrimp and lobster, etc., and fruits with skins such as oranges and lemons and bananas. We never got the touristas even once by not drinking the water but others, well, suffice it to say, they learned the hard way. As a footnote, there was bottled water available in Mexico at that time, but, one had to be careful since some of it was actually just tap water that they filled the bottle with. But, my dad grew up on the border as he lived in San Diego, so he knew his way around Mexico really well. Still, I carry my impressions from that time, to this day, and, as I have said, I could be wrong, except it seems that traveling in Mexico can be much more risky now than it ever was back then as we had zero concerns about crime when we were in Mexico. I bet that it still is a foreign country that has significant differences than the good old USA.jhwalker wrote:When you homies make it down here, we will sample the 'gritas of San Miguel de Allende.
