Season is ending

Post by Tetge »

I have had tomatoes for months now, but the nights are getting cooler fast and the harsh freezing climate of the high desert will soon kill the last of the plants. As it stands I can barely harvest enough for my salad as witnessed by today's haul. I will miss the fresh veggies as they make a real difference when cooking.

The hard frost kills the plants, not lack of plant food. Miracle Grow is OK from a convenience point of view but it is actually a rip off price wise. If you check the ingredients you can buy cheaper product that has the same stuff in it. As soon as it drops below freezing for a sustained period of time, the garden is done. And, it will freeze sometime this month or, in rare cases, early next month. The climate is harsh in the high desert, but it is the extreme winter cold that does the damage not the summer heat.
