Thoughts on the new ZR-1

I own a Viper so I am biased, but I think the ZR-1 is going to flop.

Sure it's going to sell all 2000 units, but it's going to end up like the GT500.

Overpriced and out of the hands of most of it's target market.

I heard ZR-1's could approach 150 to 300k!

That's insane.

Corvette people will buy the car and strut around posing in it unless they are cruising on their custom Harley. And, you can't fault dealers for raping people on the price. Supply and demand controls that. I have seen regular Corvettes over at $70K on the sticker so perhaps it is not as big a stretch as you think. I have not priced a Viper lately but they are fairly expensive list, as well. And a well equipped 911? As for the car itself? It is still a stinking Chevy.

Can't argue with you there. 8-)

It would be interesting to see how one would go at Famoso, but, last Friday there were 500 cars and no Vettes or Vipers to speak of. On the other hand there were tons of Mustangs and quite a few Chevy's of various sorts.

Whats with "stinking" Chevy?

I love Chevy, not every car they make, but they have been good to me and I love a number of their classic and new cars.

I like Ford and just like Chevy, sometimes they dont know what they are doing...

At the end of the day the Corvette remains a plastic sports car of limited use and dubious reliability. It is also large and wide as sports car go. And, in spite of the car no doubt being a capable performance car, I would wager that it will remain under represented where real racing takes place and that its primary use will be as a look at me status symbol. And, it is a GM product which, in my book, makes it the devil's spawn. Of course, things have been very tough for quite a few years for the hard core Ford fans, but, at least we got one winner with the Terminators and, for a pickup, the Lightnings are pretty stout as well. I can't really get into the Shelby GT500 as it is too big and too heavy and too expensive or the Ford GT as this was well beyond my price range, but they were impressive. But Corvettes have never interested me, and, I could have afforded one. Hayabusa's and many other bikes caught my attention but for cars I kept returning to Mustangs as they were the perfect size and they had nice V-8's in them and they were quite affordable. Some people actually love Chevy's but I actually hate them and the tow truck they left on.
