Over the weekend, a bunch of my musician friends and I got together at a buddies house for beer and some BBQ. We smoked an 11.5 pound pork butt. It was delicious

I would not be surprised to know that every prominent person in Mexico has visited San Miguel in the past year. It is a destination. I read the LA Times every morning (skim is more like it), and between local, state, national and world news, it seems pretty scary in a lot of places. I don't like the trend lines.

Terri stays pretty current on happenings in Mexico, partly because her company seems to have someone in HR whose job it is to remind her how dangerous it is here, in spite of how peaceful it seems where we live. We have a legal document with Anthem certifying that she is here by her own choice, sort of a hold-harmless for them. We had two "fairly prominent" people kidnapped here in SMdA this year. Both members of ultra-wealthy Mexican families, both driving very high-end cars, both friends with cartel members.
We have had a thug for a mayor here for the past 3 years, his term ends in 15 days. I am surprised that there has not been a significant rise in crime here, because his thuggish friends have had free rein. The new mayor is an acquaintance, a solid guy who confines his graft to commercial operations and who knows how important it is for San Miguel to project an image of being clean and safe. That is encouraging.

The pile of bottles ended up covering most of that table. Then there were the ones found in odd locations around the property. The Pork Butt was smoked on the Weber BBQ for almost 8 hours and was delicious. Lairds in Santa Paula will cut one to size and then apply their special rub. They have been barbecueing/catering and butchering for decades and have a developed a very tasty set of spices for various meats. I just ask them to spice it up when I buy meat and it is always good

The Pork pulled apart easily. I took some home and made stir fry with some and it was very tasty

And we played music with a live drummer who is pretty talented. A good time was had by all. Nobody puked, nobody drove away drunk
