Ugly Basketball Final Round

All the talking heads and Lebron, himself, have pronounced him as the best player on earth. And, I suppose, given the way the pro game is played now, he may well be. His only weakness the last two games was that he missed some close in shots, But, other than his shooting percentage, his numbers for the finals are statistically staggering. However, even the best player on the planet should not be able to beat a strong 8 man team of young guns. And, when Curry is doing his thing, he definitely is capable of being a game changer.

Meanwhile, Lebron has stated that he needs to do whatever it takes to win Tuesday's game. He said, I am the best MF player on earth, and I know that I can step my game up. Something like, bring it because 1 on 5 makes things interesting for me. I personally have my doubts, at this point, as basketball remains a team game. but, the Cavs certainly are no push over for the Warriors and anything can happen.

I guess that if there is no longer the concept of "foul" there is no way to deny that LBJ is the best because he IS the strongest, and the most willing to say "I will do what I have to do to get to the hoop." I expect GS to use a little different strategy on defense tonight. Hope that I am not disappointed.
It should be interesting, and we either get to watch this show 1 more time or 2 more times. What the hell will there be to do next week?

I didn't say it.... It is really hot this week, and I am struggling to get acclimatized to 100* + days, but, maybe there will be a break in the weather so that I can go for a nice mid week ride. It was a zoo heading up to Newcomb's the other day before I turned back due to an accident closing down the ACH, so mid week should be a better time to cruise the ACH. I am enjoying riding the big single since I eliminated the muffler, and, although it sounds nice, it still is not as loud as my DR-Z. I might even short shift my way past the man and get away with it.

As for basketball? Core rules have not changed too much over the years, but, the pro game definitely is very physical and there are fouls on every possession. Some are missed or miscalled by the refs, but, mostly, they just let the players carry the ball, and travel, and shove and hold. This tolerant disregard of the actual rules is required to have any sort of continuous play, so it sort of makes sense from an entertainment point of view as they are putting on a show when they play. But, it seems that the rules need adjusting so that they more closely reflect the way the game is being played. The Euro step needs to be officially allowed, and they need to add in that if a move appears artful, the refs can let it go, even if the player does travel and/or carry the basketball. The great art, no foul rule. Perhaps create a zone near the basket where contact is allowed unless it is excessive? And, they need to extend the time for time outs to realistically match the actual time that TV takes.

But, I still think that it is curtains for the Cavs tonight. I was sort of pulling for them as the underdog, but, they are the underdog and underdogs generally finish last.

And, Andre Iguodala, got the MVP of the playoffs, which seems fair to me.

Yes, somehow, at the point where there had been 23 fouls called against GS, compared to 9 against the roughest team in the history of the NBA, and Curry was about 1 for 11, and the GS team was still up by 13, the basketball gods (refs) decided that it would be ok for GS to win. No more officiating deus ex machine...

I enjoyed the series. However, I think that decisions have to be made by the NBA about the future direction of the game. Specifically the gladiatorial style of play. Your other rules change proposals should be looked at. I will send some advisories to the league management.

What the hell? Oh yes, the US Open starts today. I would like to propose there that each player be issued an air horn that can be used only 10 times during the tournament, during opponent's downswings.

And I should re-publish my letter to USATT regarding the changes that would energize the viewing audience...

It was an OK series to watch, but, I felt that the Cavs never had a chance. And, in the last couple of games, when they all laid down and passed up shots and threw the ball either to Lebron or the Warriors, it was very clear that one man, no matter how big, assisted by four players who played defense only, could not beat a real team that moved the ball and also had sharp shooters all over the place. Of course, if the Cavs had their point guard, uninjured, it might have been a lot closer, but, injuries are part of the game.

All I know is that I am losing interest in televised pro sports as entertainment, and that includes all the sports.

Golf is way too exciting. Every time the camera follows a golf ball way up into the air, and then down again, I get this rush of excitement and nearly pass out from the drama of a little ball in flight. And, when a golfer spends five minutes kneeling and looking and tossing grass into the air and all that, before missing a 10' putt, the suspense is more than I can stand.

The fun is watching the pros suffer on a course like the one they are playing... But listening to the announcers can create brain damage.
