Good that "Life in Mexico" keeps you busy. Still sorry that I missed ECF.
Two weeks ago, met up with Jay and Patrick at Famoso for the drags and rode with them last week, Angeles Forest, Soledad, Bouquet, Spunky, and so on

Saturday I will meet up with those two again at the Tim Kenney's Melo Velo ride/camp out at The Place on Hwy 33 in Ventucopa Saturday for dinner, overnight, and Sunday AM ride over Cerro Noestre to Pine Mtn Club and back by Lockwood Valley Rd. Old Brit stuff is fun to ponder.

There is always a little excitement here. This was posted this morning on a local bulletin board

A friend just called me to say she and her driver were on the way here from Mexico City airport when police or men dressed as police stopped their car and robbed them of everything at gun point. Purse, suitcases, computers, ipad, phone, the works. Thankfully they are unharmed. Also, thankfully, I have a spare set of her house keys since they won't be here until around 1:30AM and doubtful locksmith's would be available.

This stuff still happens here -- a PIA, keeps traveling edgy.

At least the criminals leave their victims unharmed.

Cool shot of the casas!
Scary stuff on the robbery. Would she have been better off flying into Leon, or would she have been on the same road?

We always fly into Leon. 1 hour away vs 4+ hours to DF. For a while here I carried a 'donor' wallet with expired credit cards, fake id, and about 1000 pesos -- but that was 5 years ago. In this little area, every thing that happens bad is a big deal. People do things to save , literally, few bucks -- like take an unknown driver for a 4+ hour ride. Stuff happens...SonicVenum wrote:Cool shot of the casas!

Re: 3/30 Life in Mexico Update
Oh wow. You'd think a resident of that area would know better. We had a long-awaited week-long vacation down in Cabo last month. We booked in April, and had been looking forward to it. In about August (I think) the story broke about the three people killed on the public beach in Cabo. Great. I didn't mention it to Rach, but she ended up seeing it anyway. It was too late to back out of the trip, and we really needed the getaway. So, we decided to just play it safe, and stay on the resort the whole time. That was pretty easy considering it's an all-inclusive resort, so food and alcohol were all included, and we really just wanted to relax, not adventure. As our transport from the airport took us to the resort, we passed a small group of Federales on the road armed with AR-15s (or some variant thereof). That did nothing to dispel any fears, but we didn't think too much of it. On our way back to the airport, I chatted with the driver about the tourism economy down there, and the effect of those murders. Obviously, it was not good, especially because it happened on a beach near a high-end part of Cabo. All this to say I had some concern in the back of my mind about getting to/from the resort without incident. I know the cartels used to have an agreement about leaving tourist areas alone, but things have changed some.
As to the vacation itself, we had a great time. Very humid down there, but we enjoyed ourselves, ate and drank our fill, and spent a lot of time in the pool. We also had a little swim-out pool directly outside our room. We took advantage of that.

We have never been to a high-end resort. Sounds like you had a good time.
Somewhat insanely, when I see the police/military all armed, the thought goes thru my head to try to disarm one of them
In the 7-8 years I have been pretty cautious (meow) -- the one 'break-in' we had, a door was left unlocked. Is that a break-in or a walk-in?
Have been shaken down once (for approx. $20. ) Shook off a couple of other attempts. One time by clucking like a chicken and laughing in response to all questions. The other time Terri started telling the cop that I was an idiot and guilty of speeding and he basically said something like 'you are punished enough' and walked away.
