Tinnitus to the max yesterday ???

Post by jhwalker »

For a variety of thoughtless behaviors, I have had tinnitus (a ringing in the ears) for about 15 years. I deal with it. Some days a bit more, some days a bit less. But I caused it, I will deal with it. Well yesterday my left ear went apeshit. The ringing turned into a screech like an engine belt slipping. My immediate reaction was WTF! Life had changed. I couldn't reduce the level of the noise. This started at 11am and continued until midnight. First I was freaked out, then a little depressed (old age sucks the big one) and started googling to see what new info regarding tinnitus was on the web since my last search. There is some new stuff and a bunch of other stuff is debunked. The strangest remedy is "EFT Tapping". This is some strange stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRq8o1MEUtU Anyway, tappity tap tap I did. My phrase was " my left ear sucks and I want to rip it off".

I could barely go to sleep (mucho blanco helped). Anyway, I woke up this morning and was back to my normal level of ringing in my ears.

I have no idea how this crap works or wheather it played any part in my healing... but it is interesting. Do we have any tappers on laspeedgarage?

Another thing we have in common, it seems. I got tested awhile after it started because I didn't know why I had ringing in my ears and they told me what it was and to live with it. It can vary in intensity, but, it has become background noise, unless it flares up. But, it subsides, given some time.

Come to think of it, we have another thing in common: "(old age sucks the big one)", although I am not as old as you........ Still it is a journey into uncharted waters for sure.

A recent article I read said that 35% of folks experience tinnitus to some degree. And even more experience old age. The amazing thing to me is that with the profit potential of a cure, and the number of people studying the situation, so little progress towards a cure/remedy has been made.

Tapping! It turns out that an acquaintance is really big into the tapping world, but he doesn't talk about it to "non-believers" or skeptics. (I probably qualify as a skeptic on most topics... :-D ) My acquaintance's name came up on one of my searches and I asked him about it, and yes he does hold tapping sessions several times a week. Anyway, today is moderate, not as good as yesterday but much better than Monday. When I get really busy I don't even hear it. Thank goodness.

As soon as I saw tinnitus in the title, I thought of this method because I just read about online last week. I'm glad it worked for you. I've had tinnitus in the past from working loud concerts and listening to music in my car at obnoxiously loud levels (the frivolity of youth). Luckily, I haven't really had issues with it in a long time, though I expect it to come back at some point. If I do, I'm definitely trying this method.

That's right -- you would be a perfect candidate for tinnitus . I double-bag my ears at the gun range (inserts and external protection) because sure as hell someone snaps one off without checking who has ear protection on. Plus some of the big guns and rifles just ignore my ear protection.
Cars, bikes, and guns for me. Knowing what I know, I wouldn't change anything.

I don't understand removing ear protection at the range. Not until I'm back in my car and driving away

I have some issues after all the years playing in bands sans protection. I deal with it. Maybe I have so much physical damage the ringing never gets out of control? Or maybe I just ignore it really well after all the years of ignoring it

We are building a range, working out in the direct sun at 6800 feet. There are times when the level of sweat and head heat, during the 4-5 hour work stints, make it damned near impossible to never remove. But I never remove the inner protection.

Do all law enforcement folks have tinnitus? I would guess yes. Maybe Brakelate will chime in.
