Annual Melo Velo Event 10-13 & 10-14
Forgot to mention this, but, rumor now has it that several well known super fast mugs may be attending. Too bad that I am too infirm and elderly to get there, even by cage, as I am nearly blind at night, and Ventacopa is in the middle of nowhere, with narrow dark roads and roaming critters and such.

Can I borrow your KTM?
I mean, since you can't make it and all . . .
I want to see if it can out bully Jay's Buell.

You mean Jay's Super Duke, don't you? You didn't fall for that old Buell line, did you? I think it was Jay that said, never bring a squirt gun to a rumble, or, something along those lines. So, if a person has a giant bike hauler, why not bring along some insurance, since there isn't much that can make a SuperDuke look inept. Not that I know anything.xbacksideslider wrote:Can I borrow your KTM?

As for my KTM? It is sitting with a full tank of fuel and a new rear tire with about 100 miles on it, and, I clean the dust off of it now and then and think of the past when I could still ride. So, it is a sentimental thing, and, since it has never been run in anger, I could never loan it out, as I have seen how mugs ride, and my immaculate chicken strips are sacred to me. In any case, Buells are slow little buggers, as my old Guzzi sort of kept up with the one that Jay now has, on the very first ride we ever took together, many years ago. He had tuned it up for the owner and she told him he could test ride it. Naturally I knew nothing of him, so I agreed on a nice ride, and, I was shocked when he immediately pulled a wheelie while splitting lanes. But, we went up to the ACH, and, the Guzzi was starving for air at altitude, and could not even pull 3rd gear, but, fortunately it was not Jay's bike at the time, and they had just put fresh tar down, and he cooled it a bit to avoid getting tar on the Buell. This, added to the fact that the SE version of the LeMans had really a really tall 60 mph first gear and 85 mph second gear, allowed me to keep him in sight most of the time, although I had the throttle pinned the entire day. I was i shock all day as well, as I had never seen such riding beiore with wheelies and knees down and never slowing for anything. And, he also waited up a lot, or I would have been left well behind. Some things never changed, but, I digress.
In any case I have to keep the KTM and the Mustang in top condition by order of my brother, as when I take a dirt nap, he will finally have a couple of semi high performance machines, and he wants them to be in near perfect condition. After a few spins on the KTM, he will let those old Brit bikes retire, as power corrupts absolutely, but, he will have to discover that on his own.
So, you are on your own, but, if I were you, I'd be more worried about that 125 HP BMW adventure bike, even packing double, as it is a monster, and Miki is fearless. You best bring the RR if you want to keep up.

A good time was had by all. You would have enjoyed the toddies around the campfire. Miki and Jay brought an eclectic collection of spirits. I enjoyed especially the maple bourbon.
And, while I rode my EXC up there, it got parked Sunday in favor of Jay's generous offer of a ride on his Buell SB9. He and Miki hustled along on his knobby shod 1200cc BMW. I also rode that impressive beast.
We talked about you, your absence, and your daring donut do of a few years back.
