Famoso Event Sept 23rd

Post by Tetge »

FamosoStreetTunerDates.JPG
The final "street outlaw" event this year at Famoso is this Saturday. The extended forecast is looking the best that it has this year, and, if they really run from 8pm Sat, to 2am Sun, the DA could be decent, remembering that the track is at 635*, and it tends to get humid out by Bakersfield, home of the thick fogs.

Some say that Brakelate Racing, out of Utah, may be showing, with their 40' semi and crew, as they appear to be anxious to test their highly modified, 200 HP, 450 pound in "street" trim, KTM drag bike. I he does show, and if he gets past tech, and if the powers that be, who actually mentioned motorcycles in their advertisement for the event, let the motorcycles have a fair shot at getting some runs in, his only concern will be if he goes sub 10's or, over 140 mph, as that requires a NHRA comp license. But, perhaps he can sand bag and stay in the 10's? But, this presupposes that Brakelate Racing, will show.

In any case, it appears that, even though I can not launch, or shift, which renders my goal of going 12's problematical, and even though it is a long trek, I figure that, unless there is rain, I best go, as it is the last shot this year, and who knows what next year may bring. I do need a time slip from a real drag strip to hold to my tradition of always testing machines at the strip. This used to be a snap, as I could just go to LACR on a Friday night and slip and slide to some idea of the capabilities of my machine. But, open events have become scarce.

I guess that I will leave this thread until I have an update, but, the 23rd approaches.

Checking tire pressures and the oil and stuff like that. Fuel to get to the track already mixed and loaded. Rumor has it that a pro motorcycle drag drag racer will be coming in from Utah to attempt the impossible feat of getting a KTM 1290R down the 1/4. Extensive research has indicated that, other than the usual fake magazine test results, in the real world, this can not be successfully accomplished. So, that would be why the pro is hauling his machine over to Famoso using his big rig, that also houses his accommodations as well as his racing machines.

Today, the latest forecast appears about as favorable as it gets in the summer, albeit a bit humid. But temps that are in the low 60's are about perfect as far as the track and grip goes and, in fact, 1000' DA only is corrected about 1%, which means that, at 1000', a 12.12 would correct to 11.999. Not much difference, and the correction is even less if DA drops below 1000'. I am mildly excited by the prospects of decent DA, and, also, mild temps while waiting to run and in the pits.

The latest forecast, this morning, was used to create the table:

A good time was had by all, especially me. :-D

Drag racing is easy.

That's what I thought after the first three runs. Big mistake.
My Honda was killing that KTM, but then, for some reasons, I lost the knack.
Went from winning to losing while Brakelate's mug went from  to :-D

He's got a couple of super sweet bikes there - that 1301cc four cam eight valve KTM V Twin and then that 1300cc twin cam 16 valve parallel BMW four. The latter redefines the term "Gentleman's Express." Left my CBR as if it were a stone. Punishing humiliation.

See pic - Sanitary install, eh?

New hybrid propulsion technology. LOL

Looks like four alternators. Is that for a huge hifi install?

Yes, ridiculous setup in a GMC/Chevy Blazer.

Four alternators on an aluminum plate holding pulleys for a long serpentine belt. All throwing power at a rack of lithium batteries in the back, which in turn, drive two 24"ish bass speakers that fire into the back of the two front seats. There was a welded in heim joint adjustable bar that went from floor to ceiling, apparently to reduce booming of the roof.

We overnighted and woke up to a drag ricer rap fest. Maybe a couple hundred Mitsus, Hondas, toys, and so on

Why not get some electric propulsion assist? The ultimate sleeper :-D
